Some plants along the Ile aux Amours trail in Bic National Park

This morning we drove over to Parc National Du Bic where we hiked along a short sand spit to reach Ile aux amours, a small rocky "island" in the Saint Lawrence River with a short trail through a boreal (spruce-fir) forest.

Rock outcrops scattered in Boreal Forest

Spruce (Picea) with Juniper (Juniperus) ground cover

Twin Flower (Linnaea borealis) a beautiful small wildflower
with flowers in pairs

Northern Star Flower (Trientalis borealis). Occurs in the Appalachians
from Canada south to northern Georgia.

Bunchberry (Cornus canadensis), a prostrate dogwood that
sometimes forms a dense ground cover. Look for  dense clusters of red fruits in July or August.
My favorite dogwood species.
