A freight train rumbles down the track adjacent to our house twice daily. In the morning, the first one loaded with freight, heads west towards Quebec City/Montreal, returning later in the day (or night), carrying less freight as it travels east towards Halifax.
While I've seen many trains pass by the house, I've not got many good photos because of the trains' unpredictable schedule and speed.
On this snowy 16th of January, things were different; for unknown reasons, the train came to an abrupt halt adjacent to the house, remaining stationary for at least an hour, enabling me to snap dozens of photos. I got to wave to the conductor in the lead locomotive (who graciously waved back).

The stopped train triggered the flashing red lights at a street crossing just up the tracks. |

The locomotive is a rather imposing structure, as is the entire train. |

Wood chips are common freight on the train. |
