Cross country skiing to Baie du Ha!Ha!

With lots of fresh snow from a big winter storm, we couldn't resist returning to Le Bic National Park this morning for some cross-country skiing. Again, we skied the Le Portage trail, this time continuing on to Baie du Ha!Ha! The last segment of the trail had not been groomed, so we created our own tracks, providing a wilderness feel. A light snow was falling, and other than the sound of our skis gliding on the snow, the spruce-fir forest was mostly very quiet. We did see (and hear) a flock of small birds flying overhead before alighting on a tall spruce tree. One wonders how winter resident birds tolerate the cold - and what do they feed on in winter? Perhaps seeds in spruce cones is part of their diet. We also encountered the tracks of several small mammals in the fresh snow.

Baie du Ha!Ha in winter!

There were broken up blocks of ice on the water's edge.

Swimming anyone? I don't think so.
