Rimouski's Park Beausejour: A fun venue for cross-country skiing and ice skating

Rimouski's Park Beausejour is well known as a cycling and walking destination in summer; what we discovered today is that it turns into an enticing venue for cross-country skiing and ice skating in winter. There are trails of varying distance, with most alongside or near the Rimouski River, which in mid-January was frozen over. One of the highlights was skiing across the frozen river on a marked trail. The trails are wide, many with groomed trails for Nordic skis. Our back country skis are a bit too wide for the groomed track but there is ample room to blaze your own trail. On Wednesday afternoon, January 23, there were a number of other cross-country skiers, snowshoers, and ice skaters taking advantage of fresh snow having fallen that morning. The temperature in mid-afternoon was a fairly mild 16 F. Dressed appropriately, including with a warm base layer, we skied comfortably for about 2 hours.

Note the wide trail with groomed tracks for cross-country skiing.
