Para-skiing across an ice-covered bay on the Saint Lawrence River

On Sunday morning, 13 January, we set out to do some cross-country skiing along the Le Verte trail that begins at the bridge in the town of Rimouski. When we got there, we could not believe our eyes - there was a  small village of ice fishing huts on the ice covered bay. And, racing along the icy substrate, was a half-dozen para-skiers whose brightly colored sails lit up the grey sky. After watching the scene unfold for half hour or so, we were quite content to head off for some self propelled cross-country skiing rather than try to harness the wind via a hand held sail.

The skiers did not appear to get airborne other than bouncing up a foot or two
when encountering bumps along the ice.

A couple of ice fishing huts and a para-skier along the ice with Rimouski in the background.

A good view of the skis and sail of a para-skier.
I suspect para-skiing looks easier than it actually is.

It looks like this para-skier is trying to slow down by doing a 'snow plow' maneuver with his skis.
