Our house in Le Bic, Quebec Province, Canada is located across from Bic National Park, which features both mountains (the northern Appalachians) and the 'sea' (as in the Saint Lawrence Seaway). Between us and the National Park is a major road (Hwy 132), as well as a railroad track that carries passengers three nights a week, and a freight train that runs twice daily.
Today, as I was walking Woody, our golden retriever, the red warning lights for an oncoming train suddenly started flashing. It was only about 4 pm, but because the days are short this time of year (January), the sun had already nearly set behind the distant ridge.
I've also added additional photos of trains passing by our house on subsequent winter days....

Woody was pretty ambivalent...he's seen a lot of trains go by.
